		<description><![CDATA[Top Professionals on tap for this weekend Top team roping professionals will be churning up the dirt in their quest to capture the top prize in a purse of more than $231,000 as they compete in the U.S. Open at the Cinch USTRC National Finals of Team Roping beginning Saturday, October 23. A total of more than $4.2 million will be awarded during the nine-day run. Action begins at 8 a.m. in the Jim Norick Arena at the Oklahoma State Fairgrounds. All events are free to the public and includes a free trade show featuring a variety of equine and western related products. Produced by the United States Team Roping Championships (USTRC) the preliminary rounds for the Open begin October 23 with the finals being held at 2:30 p.m. Sunday, October 24. Opening ceremonies for the Finals will feature top team ropers as well as focus on the efforts of Western Wishes, a not for profit that grants wishes to children faced with adversity and who love the western way of life. 		<description><![CDATA[Twenty years ago, these American Quarter Horses received the first rodeo horse of the year awards from AQHA. America’s Horse, October 27, 2009 &#8212; Back in the glory days of the American cowboy, the days of the open range prior to barbed wire, American Quarter Horses were the standard mode of transportation. No mechanical contrivance worked cattle as cheaply or easily as American Quarter Horses, then called “Steeldusts,” due to the influence of the famous stallion in the mid-1800s. Their level-headed disposition, lightning quickness and hardiness were ideally suited to the rugged lifestyle of the plains. Little has changed on the ranches of America since the late 1800s as cowboys still ride American Quarter Horses when working cattle. But another breed of cowboy also rides American Quarter Horses to work each day – the cowboys and cowgirls of professional rodeo. AQHA recognized this fact, and in 1989, set out to identify and reward the outstanding American Quarter Horses competing in professional rodeo timed events. 		<description><![CDATA[AMERICAN QUARTER HORSE ASSOCIATION AND PROFESSIONAL RODEO COWBOYS ASSOCIATION NAME TIMED-EVENT HORSES OF THE YEAR America’s Horse, October 21, 2009 – Last week, team roping heading horse Precious Speck, owned and ridden by Travis Tryan of Billings, Montana, and team roping heeling horse Baileys Copper Doc, owned and ridden by Randon Adams of Dublin, Texas, earned their fourth American Quarter Horse Association-Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association Horse of the Year honors. Precious Speck, or “Walt,” has taken top honors in 2003 and 2007-2009, while Baileys Copper Doc, or “Diesel,” has claimed consecutive first-place honors since 2006. Steer wrestling horse Rocks Eyes Opener, or “Jessie,” owned by Lee Graves of Calgary, Alberta, and ridden by Graves and Trevor Knowles, picked up a second horse of the year award. Jessie also got the top nod in 2007. “When you back him in the box, he’s going to give you 110 percent every time,” said Graves, who leads the PRCA world standings, with season earnings of $120,574.
