For many horse riders riding bitless is a scary idea. The common concerns are “I won’t have any control without a bit”, “I would never ride my horse without a bit, it’s too dangerous”, and “I’m scared that my horse will take off without a bit”. Transitioning your horse from riding with a bit to bitless is relatively easy when you learn a few safety techniques that put you in control. No matter whether you ride English or Western, just a simple rope halter is all you need to get started. Culture and language are basic to any communication between peoples so if I want to ride my horse bitless I need to effectively communicate in a way my horse understands. The basic culture of horses is that of a prey animal whose instinctual survival depends on living in a herd. Since every horse is genetically wired to require a herd leader at all times whether in a herd of horses or in a herd of two, me and my horse, I need to start out by communicating that I’m the herd leader. If I don’t behave like a herd leader my horse will either push me around disrespectfully – [...]

When it comes to your horses, ugly scars and lost riding time, versus enjoying them might be the greatest motivation to provide them with a safe environment. Steel T-posts can be one of the greatest hazards your horse will ever face. The sharp and often jagged top of a T-post can result in anything from cuts and scratches to life-threatening impalement. Uncovered T-posts can be even more dangerous than barbed wire, so replacing the barbed wire with poly tape or smooth wire is just not enough. That’s where patented Safe-T-Post-CapsTM comes in. These semi-elastic, extremely durable and puncture resistant vinyl caps conform to the shape of most any T-post and stay in place – unlike the hard plastic alternatives. They are economical enough to use on all your T-posts and WAY less expensive than a visit by the vet!! To request a free sample, email sample@cze.com. Durvet, Inc. is pleased to announce they are now a national distributor for Safe-T-Post-CapsTM. Look for Safe-T-Post-CapsTM in stores that carry the Durvet family of products! For a complete list of Durvet distributors go to www.Durvet.com. For more information or product images contact Kerry Glakeler at KerryG@Durvet.com or call 1-800-821-5570

Ever since horses have been kept in stalls, horse owners have been adding to, and then mucking out, large quantities of bedding in a futile attempt to reduce the odor and moisture in these stalls. Horse owners know first-hand how expensive it can be and that even “good” bedding cannot do the job. The solution to this age-old problem has finally arrived in Odor-No-MoreÔ, which just launched its award-winning super-absorbent product proven to lower costs and totally eliminate odor and moisture, reduce flies and promote hoof health to create a cleaner, dryer, safer and healthier stall. BioLargo, Inc.’s (Symbol: BLGO) line of Odor-No-More™ products help owners tackle the many unpleasant and unhealthy consequences of urine in horse stalls and trailers. “Until now, available stall additives did not help much,” says Joe Provenzano, creator of Odor-No-More™. “With Odor-No-More™, you can see and smell the results in minutes.” Odor-No-More™ is proven to reduce the amount of bedding consumed by up to 75%. Flies disappear as a result of eliminating all odors that horse owners and horses breathe. Horse hooves are in better condition and the soil in the stall is amended to retain and absorb liquid.
