Skipton was founder and President of Texas Fire & Safety, Inc. with locations throughout Texas. He was a lifetime member of the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo, an early supporter of the Pin Oak Charity Horse Show, a founder and President of the Texas American Saddlebred Horse Association, and a partner with trainer Charles D. Smith in S & S Venture Farm. Horses shown under the S & S Venture and Texas Fire & Safety names won dozens of world titles from the late 70s to early 2000. The final horse Jimmy Skipton had a hand in purchasing was the late RWC Five-Gaited Mare Princess Shalimar, dam of Kim’s current Sweepstakes Fine Harness winner, RWC If The Tiara Fits. His wife of 54 years, LaMerle, four daughters, one son, and seven grandchildren survive Jimmy. The family is grateful for the wonderful care provided by the staff of The Forum at Memorial Woods during his battle with Parkinson’s disease. An Application for Registration form can be found at www.saddlebred.com . Amnesty will also be granted for Transfer late fees during this period. Two American Saddlebreds, All The Money (affectionately known as Cash) and Far Field Hustle Time, continue to beat out their Arabian competitors in 25-mile Limited Distance (LD) competitions. Most recently, at the Bar H/True Grit ride in Perris, California, Cash took first place, with Hustle Time taking second. The ride was 25 miles, and both horses came in approximately 10 minutes ahead of the third place finisher. Both horses have been competing in LD for the past year, and nearly always come in the top 10; both have come in first, and Cash has two “Best Condition” honors under his saddle. How did they begin their careers? All The Money was the 1998 World’s Champion weanling who went on to be the Western States Horse Expo Breed Ambassador. Carlos and Lisa Siderman purchased him from Barbara Molland in 2005, to ride trails, and got him into the Parelli program, in which he is a Level 3. Far Field Hustle Time [...]

The United States Equestrian Federation (USEF) is pleased to announce that beginning this year, it will assume responsibility for fielding and supporting the U.S. Saddle Seat Equitation Team for the Saddle Seat Equitation World Cup. The USEF will also assist in hosting the competition when held in the United States. “This is what USEF does,” said Federation President David O’Connor. “It just makes sense for us to be involved with this.” The bi-annual competition originated in the early 1980s with an informal exchange of Saddle Seat riders in the United States and South Africa and was named the Saddle Seat Equitation World Cup in 1992. Originally a three-gaited Saddle Seat Equitation showcase, it has expanded to include a five-gaited component as well. Teams from as many as five nations now compete for the coveted World Cup titles. The Saddle Seat Equitation World Cup competition is represented by the International Saddle Seat Equitation Association (ISSEA), comprised of members from the nations participating in the World Cup. The competition rules are included in the USEF Rule Book. USEF staff will be working with the U.S. Saddle Seat Equitation World Cup Committee, made up of representatives from different breed groups, to assist with [...]

The American Saddlebred Registry (ASR) is announcing changes to its Four-Year-Old Sweepstakes program. Based on a recommendation from the Sweepstakes Committee, the ASR Board of Directors, together with the show management of the World’s Championship Horse Show, has agreed to the relocation of the ASR Four-Year-Old Sweepstakes classes to Kentucky State Fair beginning in 2012, and going forward. The ASR Two-Year-Old and Three-Year-Old Sweepstakes classes will continue to be held at the All American Horse Classic. There are four divisions of sweepstakes classes, which are Five-Gaited, Three-Gaited, Fine Harness and Park Pleasure. These classes will be held on Sunday night and will serve as qualifiers for the Junior Championship classes. Only horses nominated to the ASR Four-Year-Old Sweepstakes program will be eligible to participate in these Sweepstakes classes. In addition, the nominations and payment deadline for the Three-Year-Old and Four-Year-Old Sweepstakes has been changed from January 31 to March 1, with a 10-day grace period. The new deadline will begin in 2012 and will apply to previously nominated horses as well as new nominations.
