Haley Harrington of Rolling Hills Estates, Calif. was named Arabian Horse Association 2011 Youth of the Year. An outstanding individual with an incredible record of success at just 18, Harrington made her way into the hearts of the Youth of the Year Committee with her ardent involvement with Arabian horses and her unwavering commitment to her school and community. Harrington has been front and center as a leader for the Arabian Horse Youth Association (AHYA) where she served as Vice President in 2011. While Harrington seems to have a quite demeanor, she is hardly a silent leader and worked diligently to get sport horse under saddle classes added to the Youth Nationals class list in 2011. Harrington’s idea proved to be a good one as the first-ever purebred sport horse under saddle class had enough entries to require elimination rounds. Harrington’s success in the show ring reflects her love for the hunter and sport horse divisions where she earned two unanimous Championships, one Reserve Championship and three Top Ten’s at the 2011 Youth Nationals in sport horse under saddle, hunter hack, hunter seat equitation and working hunter classes. At the regional level in 2011 Harrington cleaned up with six Championships, [...]

By KHOU11 (Houston). This morning (Tuesday, August 9, 2011) the Arabian Community was visited by another cataclysmic nightmare when a barn fire struck the Fred Goslin/Gwen Nix farm in Magnolia, Texas. The blaze errupted at 6 a.m. in the training barn housing 28 show horses. 14 horses were lost in the fire, but 14 were rescued by Fred and Jennifer and their children Casey and Crizta. The barn housed nationally decorated horses for people throughout the Southwest area, including several of the family’s children’s horses. Tom McNutt is organizing on-site assistance to help with clean-up and to prepare for re-building. If you are interested in donating “In-Kind” assistance, contact Tom at 936-756-2724 to offer assistance. For those supplying In Kind donations, whether of service or product, the assistance can be deducted through the Arabian Horsemen’s Distress Fund. Contact mary@trowbridgesltd.com for more information. (The website for the Horsemen’s Distress Fund is http://m1e.net/c?15899257-fsPcrwtvL0F/U%406702289-sbqAxeyjaAeXE.)
The Arabian Horse Association (AHA) kicks off the 2011 national show season with the Youth National Arabian & Half-Arabian Championship Horse Show (Youth Nationals), July 23-30, 2011 at Expo New Mexico in Albuquerque, N.M. The equine industry’s shining young stars, ages 6-18 (although you might find some remarkable 3 year-olds in the lead-line classes) will swagger into Albuquerque with their Arabians, Half-Arabians, and Anglo-Arabians to present the work they’ve put in at the practice pen since last year’s Youth Nationals. Approximately 950 of the world’s best kid-toting horses will be trailered in from about 40 states and three Canadian provinces and will compete in dozens of different classes, spanning almost every possible discipline, boasting the versatility of the Arabian horse and their Half-Arabian and Anglo-Arabian siblings. Looking for halter, side saddle, jumping, reining or English pleasure classes? Youth Nationals has them all and more. The excitement begins with some education thanks to the 8th Annual Arabian Professional & Amateur Horseman’s Association (APAHA) Youth Nationals Clinics on July 21 from 2 – 5p.m. in the Horse Arena. This year’s clinicians are the 2010 APAHA Horseman of the Year, Bob Battaglia, and Horsewoman of the Year, Vickey Bowman. The clinics are free [...]

Early morning April 5 a barn fire destroyed the main barn belonging to long-time Arabian breeding farm, Oasis Arabians, located near Cincinnati, OH. The farm, co-owned by Deborah Crosby and Nancy Brant, was home to over 40 beloved Arabian horses that exhibited in reining, working cow, cutting, and competitive driving, among other disciplines. As of this writing, 24 horses were lost, with 16 surviving, 2 of whom are currently at Rood and Riddle under veterinarian care. Virtually everything else, including feed, hay, tractors, equipment, tools and carriages, was lost in the blaze. Obviously, there are many items that will be needed to care for the remaining horses and continue the day-to-day operations of the farm, as well as substantial rebuilding and replacement costs. Donations to benefit the farm and family can be made on-line by going to http://m1e.net/c?15899257-p3rzG51M.AKAc%406336484-OJgqbG0QfU28s where you will find a Pay Pal button through which you can make a secure credit card donation. To earmark your donation towards the fire fund, simply then send an e-mail to mary@trowbridgesltd.com that includes the electronic receipt provided by Pay Pal with a note to earmark your donation for Oasis Arabians. If you prefer to donate via check, send a check [...]

The SASHA Charity Horse Show Announces Martha Murdoch as Judge and New Arabian Classes for 2011! The SASHA Charity Horse Show, a popular kick-off to each new show season, will be held March 4-6, 2011 at the San Antonio Rose Palace. Martha Murdoch will be marking the cards for the Arabian division this year. We look forward to having her in the center of the ring before she heads off to judge the Arabian Youth Nationals later this year. The Saddlebred division will be judged by Brent Jacobs. Martha will have the opportunity to judge several new classes in the SASHA schedule, including Championships for the Arabian/HA/AA Walk & Trot division. Based on exhibitor feedback, the Walk/Trot classes have been moved the beginning and end of the sessions to make it easier and safer for our young competitors. Please check out the new schedule so you can see what other changes have been made and we encourage you to take advantage of the Buy-A-Classes. Due to popular demand, the venue for the SASHA Barn Party will move to the Scenic Loop Café, right next door to the show grounds, and will be held on Friday night so exhibitors have a [...]

The Arabian Horse Association (AHA) is proud to name Kelsey Kimbler of Aberdeen, S.D. the 2010 AHA Youth of the Year. Kimbler was presented with the Youth of the Year perpetual trophy at the 2010 AHA Annual Convention on Nov. 20 in Orlando, Fla. A quote by Randy Pausch is one of Kimbler’s favorites, “The brick walls are not there to keep us out, they are there to give us a chance to show how badly we want something.” And shown us, she has. Kimbler’s achievements and contributions to the Arabian horse industry and her community met, and in some cases, exceeded the expectations of the Youth of the Year sub-committee, boasting an AHYA leadership position, record-breaking endurance ride finishes, and a 4.136 GPA. Kimbler’s involvement with Arabians and Half-Arabians began 11 years ago when her older sister Kirsten (the 2007 AHA Youth of the Year) received her first Arabian horse. Shortly after, Kelsey experienced her dream-come-true with a four-legged Christmas present named Kota-big red bow and all-and began showing at local Region 6 Arabian shows. Kimbler’s volunteer AHYA experience began early, attending Youth Nationals and participating in the Parade of Regions, the Stick Horse Contest and representing Region 6 [...]
