873 NR13pAW,2-028-MandyMcCutcheon-Ms Whiz Dunit-winFriday’s competition at the National Reining Horse Association (NRHA) Futurity & Adequan® North American Affiliate Championship (NAAC) Show in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, featured the $260,000 added 2013 Cinch NRHA Futurity Non Pro Finals. This championship event welcomed back 53 non pros to compete in a clean-slate format for nearly $600,000 in cash. In addition to the purse, finalists received a variety of prizes from NRHA Corporate Partners and NRHA Futurity Event Sponsors.

From the fifth draw in the second section, Mandy McCutcheon (Aubrey, TX) set the bar for the remaining finalists. She earned a 218 from the judges on her Ms Whiz Dunit to win the title of 2013 Cinch NRHA Futurity Non Pro Champion. Ms Whiz Dunit is by Topsail Whiz and out of A Bueno Poco Dunit (by Hollywood Dun It). Mandy and the mare won the Southwest Reining Horse Association Futurity Non Pro in October to bring her freshman earnings to more than $7,700 prior to the NRHA Futurity.

The Level 4 non pro championship paid a total of $44,575 with $2,200 of that amount going to nominator Roxanne Koepsell.

With a score of 216, Anne Reynolds (King Hill, ID) and Joyce Pearson’s Magicality (Very Smart Remedy x Magical Lena) clenched the level 3 non pro division and prime time non pro division champions. She tied for the level 4 non pro division reserve championship with Kelle Smith (Marietta, OK) aboard her Dunit The Gunner Way (Gunner x Dun It The Hard Way). Reynolds nominated the stallion to the NRHA Nomination Program, so she earned the rider’s portion of the purse ($48,920), plus the nominator incentive ($2,570).

Sarah Lynn Locker (Brashear, TX) and The Chex Factor (Nu Chex To Cash x Lockyourgun) improved their go-round score to a 215 to win the level 2 non pro division championship, level 3 non pro division reserve championship and tie for fourth place in the level 4 non pro division. Owner Hilldale Farms also nominated the stallion. They’ll receive 5% of the $54,160 earned across all three divisions.

Maggie Gratny (Aubrey, TX) and Wallywood (Walla Walla Whiz x Custom Mahogany) marked a 208 to win the level 1 non pro division for owner Mark Gratny. The team qualified for all four non pro divisions and earned $24,270 total (including the 5% nominator incentive earned by Arcese Quarter Horses, USA).

Youth member Emily Winegar took home championship honors in the youth non pro division on A Wimpy Remedy (Wimpys Little Step x Remedys Sure Slide, owned by Green Valley Ranch) with a score of 213. Former Youth Non Pro Champion Jaci Marley (Plainview, TX) earned second place this year on Jennifer Marley’s Sailon Mega (Topsail Whiz x Mi Mega) with a score of 212. Youth Non Pro division placings are determined by go-round score.

Each year, NRHA recognizes the highest scoring first time exhibitor in the Non Pro go round with a championship buckle. In addition, the Non Pro rider’s trainer receives a check for $5,000. This year’s winner is Indy Roper and her trainer NRHA Professional Gabe Hutchins.
