May 3 – 5: Greenwood Farm Horse Trials

April 17, 2013 Off By Roberta Johnston

Banners in Weatherford colorfully proclaim the May 3 – 5 Greenwood Horse Trials, presented by Charlie Gilchrist’s SouthWest Ford. A “horse triathlon”, horse and rider pairs compete in dressage, stadium jumping, and cross-country jumping for international and national prizes.  The public is invited free of charge, and food and a variety of vendors will add to the enjoyment of watching over 250 beautiful horses prance through practiced dressage patterns and leap over colorful stadium jumps.

Victory awaits those who run their cross-country with clean jumping and no time penalties for the course’s optimum time.  The cross-country phase of the event is unique to this equestrian Olympic sport.  Greenwood has five courses, each with an increasing level of difficulty.  Spectators can walk the course and watch competitors negotiate combinations of solid jumps, banks, drops, and water jumps.

The event takes place at 2100 Greenwood Road in Weatherford.  Competition runs from 8:00 AM until 3:00 PM Friday, May 3 through Sunday, May 5.  For directions, details, and more information, check www.greenwoodfarmonline, email [email protected], or call Christie Tull at 817-599-8159.
