Exciting Schedule Showcases Hunters and Jumpers at Spring Gathering Charity Horse Show

This year’s Spring Gathering Charity Horse Show will feature a full line-up of exciting hunter/jumper action during its weeklong event. The action will get underway on Tuesday, April 5 and run through Sunday April 10, 2011 at the Great Southwest Equestrian Center in beautiful Katy, Texas. Riders will have he opportunity to showcase their mounts in a number of classes, with an excellent array of top prize money hunter/jumper events, including the Carole and Jim Looke Family Fund $50,000 USHJA International Hunter Derby.

The Spring Gathering Charity Horse Show benefits the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation and features over $250,000 in total prize money. On Wednesday, April 6, the action will kick-off with the $10,000 1.35m Open Jumper Speed Stake. The jumper competition will continue on Thursday with a $10,000 1.40m Spring Gather Jumper Classic. Hunter riders will also have the opportunity to compete for top prizes in Thursday’s $25,000 Pre Green Classic.

On Friday, the weekend’s competition will get underway with the $10,000 1.45m Spring Gathering Welcome Stake, followed by the $20,000 National Hunter Classic beginning at 5:30p.m. Saturday night will host the Spring Gathering’s highlight event, the Carole and Jim Looke Family Fund $50,000 USHJA International Hunter Derby which will begin at 7:00 p.m.

The Spring Gathering’s weeklong competition will come to a close on Sunday with the $25,000 Spring Gathering Grand Prix. Horses and riders will tackle the track beginning at 2:00 p.m. Sunday will also feature a NAL/WIHS Children’s and Adult Jumper Classic, a $5,000 Junior Hunter Classic, and a $3,000 Pony Hunter Classic.

The Spring Gathering Charity Horse show benefits the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation, which works diligently to find a cure for diabetes through the support of research. JDRF is the largest charitable funder of and advocate for Type 1 Diabetes research. Type 1 Diabetes is an autoimmune disease that strikes children and adults suddenly, and can be fatal. Until a cure is found, people with Type 1 Diabetes have to test their blood sugar and give themselves insulin injections multiple times each day or use a pump – each and every day of their lives. Since its founding in 1970 by parents of children with Type 1 Diabetes, JDRF has awarded more than $1.5 billion to diabetes research, including more than $107 million last year. More than 80 percent of JDRF’s expenditures directly support research and research-related education.

From Houston, take I-10 West and exit Mason Road, Exit 745. Go left (south) for three miles and the Center is on the left.

From San Antonio, take I-10 East and exit Mason Road, Exit 745. Go right (South) for three miles and the Center in on the left.

From Dallas take I-45 South and exit Beltway 8 (Sam Houston Toll Road) south to I-10. Take I-10 West to Mason Road, Exit 745. Go left (south) on Mason for three miles and the Center is located on the left.

From the Rosenberg-Richmond area and points south, take the Grand Parkway (Hwy 99) north. Exit Cinco Ranch Boulevard to Mason Road and go a left (north). The Center is located approximately 100 yards on the right.
