NRHA / Markel Insurance Breeders Select Sale Up 64%

The National Reining Horse Association (NRHA) produces three premier reining sales each year, held during the NRHA Futurity & North America Affiliate Championship Show. These sales offer an outstanding group of two-year-old reining prospects, yearlings, stallions, broodmares, and show horses from leading breeders, owners, and trainers. On Thursday, December 2, the show welcomed the NRHA / Markel Insurance Breeders Select Sale and hot bidding ensued. When the final calculations came in, the sale grossed $1,253,500 – a 64% increase over 2009.

The NRHA / Markel Insurance Breeders Select Sale offered a select group of yearlings and top producing broodmares with proven performance bloodlines. The high seller of the day ($112,000) was Shine N Shoot, consigned by Carol Rose & Eric Storey. The 2009 sorrel American Quarter Horse colt is by NRHA Three Million Dollar Sire and NRHA Derby Level 4 Open Champion Shining Spark. Shine N Shoot’s dam, Katie Gun, produced the likes of Colonels Smoking Gun (Gunner) – NRHA Two Million Dollar Sire, $173,728 NRHA LTE; Spooks Gotta Gun – NRHA Derby Open Champion, $79,603 NRHA LTE; and Dun It Gotta Gun – NRHA Non Pro Futurity Reserve Champion, $57,281 NRHA LTE.

The sales continue Friday and Saturday starting at 9:30 a.m. in the Barn 3 Sale Arena. Friday’s sale, the NRHA / Markel Insurance Marketplace Sale, features an outstanding group of broodmares, yearlings, two-year-olds and finished horses. Saturday brings the NRHA / Markel Insurance Futurity Prospect Sale for a select group of two-year-old reining prospects.
