This weekend top junior riders Eirin and Lene Bruheim represented their family’s Nordic Lights Farm at the Southwest Showdown. The horse show was held at the Great Southwest Equestrian Center in Katy, Texas. The girls each scored leading prizes in the High Children’s Jumpers, the Children’s Hunters, and the Open Jumper divisions.

Eirin rode her top mount Cicero 75 in the $5,000 1.25m Welcome Stake and the $10,000 1.35m Open Jumper Classic. The pair had an excellent trip in both classes and took home the third place prize in the Welcome Stake and the eighth place honors in the Open Jumper Classic.

“Cicero was good considering he has recently undergone a huge change regarding his shoeing,” noted Eirin. “He felt strong and I think this was just the kind of week we needed to warm up for Prix des States at Harrisburg. I am so glad my horse was good for me and I’m anxiously waiting to show again next week.”

Also competing this weekend was Lene Bruheim in the High Children’s Jumpers and Children’s Hunters. She garnered the reserve championship prize in the High Children’s Jumpers aboard NLF Valhall. Lene piloted NLF Valhall to victory in the High Children’s Jumper Class and then took home the sixth place ribbon in the $2,500 Children’s/Adult Amateur Classic.

“NLF Valhall proved again to be my superman,” smiled Lene. “He was very responsive to my aids, maybe a little too responsive Sunday, but it was great!”

A thunderstorm rolled through during this weekend’s horse show, but Lene was still successful with NLF Casabella during the Children’s Hunters. The pair took home the blue ribbon during the stake round and was awarded a third place ribbon in the over fences class.

“NLF Casabella finished strong after a hazy start from a storm that passed through the show grounds while showing on Saturday,” explained Lene. “She was calm and focused, and listened really well to what I asked of her on Sunday. I couldn’t be happier with my horses!”

Both girls will compete again in Texas this coming weekend as they prepare to travel to the East Coast during the Pennsylvania National Horse Show and the Washington International Horse Show.

Nordic Lights Farm is a 70-acre establishment located in Tomball, TX, that was founded in 2007 by the Bruheim family to help further the equestrian goals of 18-year-old Eirin Bruheim and 16-year-old Lene Bruheim. Both girls have worked their way up through the ranks and are currently competing at the top levels in the hunter and jumper divisions aboard their incredible string of horses.
